Welcome from the Director of Music

Waikato Community School of Music (WCSM), under this name and its previous one of Hamilton Community Centre of Music (HCCM), has been providing affordable music tuition for over thirty years. Our purpose is to offer all in our community, regardless of age or experience, a diverse and enjoyable musical experience, with the option of preparing for recognized music examination.

WCSM/HCCM students, who comprise both children and adults, all enjoy our special mix of learning and performance opportunities. Our courses include the very popular Music Makers/Young Voices programmes for children aged 3–13+ years, instrumental classes,  as well as the WCSM Sinfonia, Concert Band, String Orchestra, and ensembles for guitar, flute and ukulele.

We are committed to delivering high quality music education, and our staff of over twenty experienced tutors all participate in an on-going Professional Development Programme. Our curriculum is centred on the syllabuses of the NZ Music Examinations Board and Trinity College London.

We are based in the Education buildings (TT, TC and TA) at the University of Waikato. Classes are held on Saturday mornings during primary school terms.

Whether you’re just starting out in music or want to learn more, we can help you achieve your ambitions. Let your musical talents flourish – come and share with us the joy of music.
